You get this benefit once. Make it count.

BDIC can be used to avoid points one time. The Secretary of State — not the court — decides whether you're eligible and mails you a letter. No court approval is needed.

You're likely eligible
  • You received an eligibility letter from the Michigan Department of State
  • You hold a valid non-commercial Michigan license
  • You have two or fewer points on your record
  • Your ticket was issued on or after December 31, 2010 and is an eligible civil infraction
It won't help if
  • You have already completed a BDIC — the point-avoidance benefit is available once.
  • The violation happened in a commercial motor vehicle.
  • The offense was criminal rather than a civil infraction.
  • You're already inside a 60-day eligibility window for a different violation.

Your letter names a deadline — typically 60 days from the date it was issued. Finish and pass by then and the points never post. Miss it and the ticket is reported to your insurer with all its points assessed.

The Course

Four hours on Michigan roads, then the exam.

The state sets a four-hour minimum of course time before you can sit the final. You don't have to do it in one go — log in and out, and we hold your place.

Michigan questions

Do I need the court's permission?

No. The Secretary of State mails eligible drivers a notice giving them 60 days to enroll and finish with an approved sponsor. Courts aren't involved in BDIC.

Can I finish faster than four hours?

Not for BDIC — state rules require four hours of course time before the final exam. What we can do is let you split those hours however you like and keep your place between sessions.

Will my insurance company find out?

If you pass on time, the Michigan Department of State will not report the ticket or points to your insurance agency..

What if I fail the exam?

Retake it, free — just be sure you pass before your deadline. Over 99% of our students pass, most on the first attempt.

Why is Michigan more than California?
